On Friday 1st May Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne T.D. alongside Kieran O’Donnell Minister of State for Older People and Housing officially opened Greenhills Grange, a new age-friendly social housing development in Drogheda.
The opening ceremony was attended by key stakeholders and project partners, including The Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council, Sean Kelly, Cunningham COO Lisa Murtagh, Cunningham Director of Construction George Taggart, together with representatives from Age Friendly Ireland, Louth County Council and Van Dijk Architects.
Greenhills Grange comprises 45 high-quality two-bedroom age-friendly bungalows, alongside a five-bedroom assisted living bungalow. The development is complemented by thoughtfully designed landscaped public open spaces that are inclusive, accessible, and carefully tailored to support the evolving needs of older residents within the community.
Construction commenced in February 2025 and was delivered under Louth County Council’s Accelerated Delivery Programme. Throughout the project, the Cunningham team maintained a strong emphasis on programme efficiency, quality assurance, and the integration of modern construction methodologies working closely with the extended design and project team. This approach enabled the development to be completed ahead of schedule and within budget.
Greenhills Grange reflects Cunningham’s ongoing commitment to delivering sustainable, community-focused housing developments that enhance quality of life. The project demonstrates a collaborative approach to construction excellence, combining innovation, thoughtful design, and efficient delivery to create homes that support independent living for older people in a safe and connected environment.
Age-friendly housing is a vital part of our overall housing strategy, enabling older people to live independently, safely and with dignity in their own communities. It is especially positive to see developments like Greenhills Grange, which includes 46 new homes, specifically designed to meet the needs of our older population.
By providing high-quality, purpose-built homes in the community, we are ensuring that housing provision reflects the changing needs of our society. Initiatives like this are essential as we plan for the future and respond to an ageing population.
