Greenhills Grange is a thoughtfully designed age friendly residential development comprising 46 homes in Greenhills, Drogheda.
Delivered on behalf of Louth County Council under its Accelerated Delivery Programme, the scheme provides high quality, age friendly housing that supports independent living while fostering a safe, connected, and inclusive community environment.
The development consists of 45 single storey two bedroom bungalows and one single storey five bedroom community house, designed to meet the evolving needs of older residents. Complementing the homes are carefully planned landscaped public open spaces, accessible pathways, and communal areas that encourage wellbeing, social interaction, and ease of movement throughout the development.
Construction was completed ahead of programme and within budget through close collaboration with the Design Team and project stakeholders.
Timber frame construction formed the core of the building strategy, providing improved construction efficiency, reduced environmental impact, and enhanced building performance. Sustainability was further embedded throughout the development through the integration of air source heat pumps and photovoltaic (PV) panels, delivering energy efficient homes that support lower running costs and reduced carbon emissions.
In addition to the residential units, the project included extensive civil and infrastructure works comprising the construction of a new access road from Newtown Link Road, estate roads, public footpaths, public lighting, car and cycle parking facilities, underground watermains and sewer networks, attenuation systems, an ESB substation, boundary treatments, private gardens, and hard and soft landscaping.
A strong emphasis was placed on community engagement throughout construction. Given the site’s proximity to Tredagh Lodge Day Care Centre, maintaining open communication and positive relationships with neighbouring stakeholders was a key project priority. Through proactive liaison, regular engagement, and a responsive approach to concerns, the project team successfully minimised disruption to the centre’s day-to-day operations while fostering trust and goodwill within the local community.
Sinead Reynolds, Nurse Manager at the Alzheimer Society of Ireland’s Tredagh Lodge Day Care Centre, commented:
“It’s lovely to see Greenhills Grange nearing completion. They are beautiful houses and finished to a high standard. Congratulations to anyone who gets to live in them!
Conor, Declan and all the team have always kept the lines of communication open and when there were any issues, they were always friendly, courteous and respectful to deal with.
They were always accommodating and willing to meet myself and the committee to discuss the features they could help with to enhance our service. Every issue was dealt with promptly. There was minimal impact on the day service we provide.”
Greenhills Grange reflects Cunningham’s commitment to delivering sustainable, community focused housing developments that enhance quality of life. The project demonstrates how innovation, collaboration, effective stakeholder engagement, and efficient delivery can create lasting social value while providing residents with energy efficient homes designed for independent living.
