On Friday 17th April Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Brown T.D. officially opened the landmark development, Fitzgerald Close, Greenfields, Maynooth, marking a significant milestone in contemporary residential delivery in Ireland.
The event was attended by; Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Brown T.D., Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, James Lawless T.D, The Cathaoirleach of the County of Kildare, Cllr Carmel Kelly, Cunningham CEO Tim Cunningham, Cunningham Director of Construction George Taggart, alongside representatives from Kildare County Council and Van Dijk Architects.
Fitzgerald Close sets a new benchmark for sustainable residential development in the region. The project incorporates pioneering nature-based solutions, including advanced bio-retention and detention basins. These systems utilise green infrastructure and natural processes to manage stormwater, enhance water quality, and support resilient urban growth, demonstrating Cunningham’s leadership in environmentally responsible construction.
The development delivers 65 new homes to the community, includes a mix of one to four bedroom houses, one and two bedroom apartments, and two bedroom duplex units, inclusive of Age Friendly and universally designed ground-floor homes to support accessibility and independent living.
From initial planning through to final handover, the Cunningham project team and partners maintained a consistent focus on quality delivery and coordinated execution across all stages of the development, reflecting the collaborative excellence behind this transformative scheme.
Cunningham is proud to have delivered Fitzgerald Close, a project that reflects our commitment to high standards in construction, effective project delivery and innovation.
I am also delighted to be able to celebrate the opening of a significant social housing development here at Fitzgerald Close. With over €29 million in funding from my Department under the Social Housing Investment Programme, this project will provide 65 much needed new homes, including Age Friendly and universally designed ground-floor homes that support accessibility and independent living.
