As Cunningham celebrates 20 years in business, the company has announced a significant milestone in the continued growth of its Mission Critical Division, securing €35 million in new data centre contracts, strengthening its senior leadership team and further expanding its presence across Europe.

The announcement includes the appointment of John Cunningham as Managing Director of the Mission Critical Division, alongside two major project awards in Ireland and Sweden. Together, these developments reflect Cunningham’s continued investment in its people, capabilities and international operations as demand for specialist Mission Critical infrastructure continues to grow.

With an established presence in Ireland and expanding operations in Germany and Sweden, Cunningham is building on its strong track record in delivering complex, technically demanding projects while positioning the division for its next phase of growth.

Strengthening Leadership to Support Growth

The appointment of John Cunningham as Managing Director represents a significant investment in the future leadership and development of the Mission Critical Division.

Bringing more than 30 years of senior leadership experience in the construction industry, John has overseen the delivery of major projects across multiple sectors. His appointment establishes a dedicated executive leadership role within the division, providing the strategic and operational focus required to support its growing portfolio and international expansion.

John will lead the continued development of the division, strengthening operational and commercial capabilities, developing teams and building on established client relationships as Cunningham expands its presence across European markets.

€35 Million in New Mission Critical Contracts

Further demonstrating the division’s growth, Cunningham has secured two significant data centre projects in Ireland and Sweden, with a combined contract value of €35 million.

In Blanchardstown, Dublin, Cunningham has been appointed to deliver a pioneering Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project within an existing hyperscale data centre campus.

The eight-month project represents a first-of-its-kind energy storage installation for the facility, supporting greater operational resilience and efficiency. Cunningham’s scope includes the full Mechanical and Electrical delivery of the system, transformer installation and integration with existing network infrastructure, together with associated Civil, Structural and Architectural (CSA) works.

In Skellefteå, Sweden, Cunningham has secured a major 12-month CSA package on a large hyperscale data centre development.

The award represents another important milestone in Cunningham’s international growth strategy, further establishing its presence in the Swedish market and strengthening its position as a delivery partner for major Mission Critical infrastructure projects across Europe.

These latest awards build on Cunningham’s expanding European portfolio and demonstrate the company’s ability to deliver specialist construction solutions across multiple international markets.

Building for the Next Phase of Growth

Commenting on the developments, Tim Cunningham, CEO of Cunningham, said: “We are entering an exciting new chapter in Cunningham’s growth, particularly within our Mission Critical Division. The award of €35 million in new contracts, our continued expansion into European markets and the strengthening of our senior leadership team are all significant milestones for the business.

“Over recent years, we have built a strong reputation for delivering complex Mission Critical projects, supported by the expertise of our people and the trust of our clients.

“John’s appointment is an important strategic investment in the future of the division. His experience and leadership will be instrumental as we continue to develop our capabilities, support our clients and pursue new opportunities across Ireland and Europe.

“As we celebrate our 20th anniversary, these developments reflect both how far the business has come and our ambition for the years ahead.”

John Cunningham, Managing Director, Mission Critical Division, added: “I’m delighted to join Cunningham at such an important stage in its development. The business has established a strong reputation in the Mission Critical sector through its commitment to quality, technical excellence and client relationships.

“The continued growth of the division, combined with our expanding international presence, presents significant opportunities for the business.

“My focus will be on building on these strong foundations, developing our people, strengthening our operational and commercial capabilities and ensuring we continue to deliver exceptional projects for our clients as we grow.”
