Cunningham was the main contractor appointed for the remodeling, refurbishment and turnkey fit out of the 7,000m² historic Blackwater Building, a protected listed building, at the St Davnett’s Hospital Campus in County Monaghan.
The project, which also included a new build extension element, was carried out in the live operational Monaghan Hospital Campus. Minimising disruption to hospital services, including its utility services, was of paramount importance throughout the project. A decant strategy was implemented to vacate the building to adjacent hospital buildings and some temporary portacabin accommodation was installed.
The project involved “gutting” the existing building and included the licensed removal of asbestos. The existing roof was replaced as well as electrical, mechanical, fire safety and security installations.
Deep excavation, casement construction and the installation of two new lift shafts were completed. Remodeling was undertaken to allow for internal configuration and installation of new partition walls to create new rooms, corridors, and open plan areas.
The refurbished building houses a new dental clinic, GP surgeries, pharmacy, Xray centre and incorporates several clean rooms which required utilising clean build protocols. The works also included a new reception area, staff, and office accommodation within the refurbished building. High quality fit out of the refurbed building ensured an ultra-modern state-of-the-art healthcare facility.
