Cunningham were appointed by the Board of Governors of Realt Na Mara national School to deliver the redevelopment works at the Junior and Senior School site in Dundalk, County Louth.
The scope of works included the provision of a 1,100m2 new build extension to the rear of the existing school building comprising of two mainstream classrooms and five Special Needs Classroom Units with associated ancillary accommodation. Prior to works commencing, Cunningham Contracts Group undertook demolition works of an existing building to provide a new vehicular entrance to the Special Needs Units.
The new extension was of a traditional masonry build which required piled foundations used to limit differential settlement and underpinning of a section of the existing building required. Ground floor construction consisted of suspended precast concrete floor slab with PIR insulation and screed. The new roof was light weight metal deck and windows were powder coated aluminum.
The project entailed all external works including car parking, hard and soft landscaping, services installations, boundary treatment and football pitch and basketball court installations. Fully lined out and signed car parking area for 25 spaces was provided.
Key to the successful delivery within a live education environment was the measures put in place to separate the construction works from the live school area and ensure the health and safety of the children, staff, and parents.
