New Nangor Road

Cunningham were appointed by South Dublin County Council to deliver the construction of New Nangor Road.  The project involved the construction of 93 residential units, comprising two apartment blocks with 30 units each, 15 two-storey houses, and 9 duplex units.

The development utilises a combination of construction methods, incorporating masonry for the houses and duplexes, and a concrete frame with a masonry envelope for the apartment blocks. The apartment stair cores are enveloped in a curtainwall system, while the staircases are finished with metal balustrades and handrails, and the common areas are tiled. The project also includes the installation of lifts in the apartment blocks for wheelchair accessibility.

The units are fully finished, with kitchens and bathrooms fitted and second-fix joinery completed. All areas are painted, providing a ready-to-move-in environment for the residents. The bike storage facilities are constructed from masonry and feature zinc standing seam roofs with electronic access. These stores are designed to hold bikes on free-standing vertical racks.

Landscaping plays a key role in the development, with gardens planted with grass and trees, while public spaces are enhanced with grass, shrubs, hedgerows, and wildflower mixes. Three natural play areas are incorporated into the design, featuring play equipment such as a tower slide with a net, a seesaw, a carousel, and stepping logs, alongside natural boulders and de-barked trees. The aim is to foster a strong sense of community and encourage outdoor activities among families and children.

The development also includes roads and footpaths, which are paved with tarmac and equipped with appropriate signage and road markings.

As part of the sustainability efforts, all units are equipped with air source heat pumps, ensuring energy efficiency. The apartment blocks feature solar panels on their roof.

The external works of the project cover a range of essential utilities, including the installation of storm and foul drainage systems, as well as electrical and communication ducting, and watermain infrastructure.
